My special interests include the planning and delivery of brachytherapy (the placement of radioactive “seeds” inside a tumor), radiation oncology, microdosimetry, the biological effects of ionizing radiation, and biostatistics.
I devised sophisticated optimization modeling and computational techniques to implement an intra-operative three-dimensional treatment planning system for brachytherapy. This work has been shown to improve the survival rate of patients with prostate cancer, reduce treatment side effects, and lower healthcare costs.
