Study on the relationship of sperm acrosin activity with fertilization rate during in-vitro fertilization

Objective To study the effect of selection technique on sperm acrosin activity and its association with the fertilization rate of IVF. Methods The male partners from 53 infertility couples who were selected for IVF, sperm acrosin activity were assessed on semen specimen of a freshly liquefied and after its selection by puresperm density centrifugation techniques. Sperm acrosin activity was determined spectrophotometrically and according to a modified method of kennedy et al. The sperm acrosin activity and its association with fertilization of the IVF was studied. Results Sperm acrosin activity was significantly changed after selection technique (P<0.000 ). It was associ-ated with fertilization rate of the IVF, low acrosin activities was associated with low fertilization rate. Conclusion Sperm acrosin activity was associated with fertilization rate of the IVF, and it could be a tool to predict the fertilization rate of the IVF.
