On the target spin dependence of the optical potential

Summary  The problem of possible spin-dependent interactions in the optical-model description of a scattering process between nucleons and nuclei of spinI≠0 is considered. We start from the analysis of the usuall·s potential in the channel-spin representation. Then the effects of other potentials involving the target spinI are studied. The scattering equations are written down, and exactly solved under simplifying assumptions on the radial dependence of the phenomenological potentials. In the latter case some useful correlations among the scattering phase shifts are derived.
