摘要

The monohydrate of benzyldodecyldimethylammonium bromide, C21H38N+.Br-.H2O, which has preservative properties, has been synthesized and its structure determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The aromatic ring plane and the C7-N8-C10 plane are orthogonal. Bond lengths and angles are in agreement with published values for similar compounds. The water molecule is linked to one of the methyl groups by a short van der Waals interaction.
