Glutathione S-transferase-P1 expression correlates with increased antioxidant capacity in transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Based on high glutathione content and increased activities of antioxidant enzymes, the oxidant/antioxidant balance in transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder favours the reduced state. Expression of redox-sensitive GSTP1 protein is enhanced and increases with tumour grade.
