Hard- and Software Architecture for All-Digital DRM Monitoring Receivers

The rollout of the DRM System will require high- performance, flexible and yet cost-effective monito ring re- ceivers. They are used in validation of transmittin g equip- ment, monitoring of transmitter parameters and the valida- tion of network coverage. In this paper, the specif ic re- quirements for these applications are outlined. The archi- tecture of an all-digital monitoring receiver is di scussed. The concept of a direct-sampling receiver using a h igh performance monolithically integrated A/D converter is compared with a classic superheterodyne concept. It is shown, that the direct sampling approach has signif icant advantages. Moreover the concept for the baseband s ignal processing and the firmware is presented. The paper is concluded with a summary of the performance charact eris- tics.
