Comparison Of Central Dimmer Systems Based On Multiple-Tapped Autotransformer And High-Frequency Switching Converter
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS(2012)
Abstract
This paper compares two central dimmer system technologies used in street lighting. These dimmers are utilized in adaptive lighting systems based on high-intensity-discharge lamps and magnetic ballasts. The first technology is based on a multiple-tapped autotransformer which is commonly used for these types of installations. The second technology is based on a high-frequency switch converter (more specifically in a single-phase matrix converter topology) and represents a novelty for this type of application. Tests were conducted to determine the main features of both dimmer technologies, and the obtained results are presented.
