Preparation of Ethylene Glycol Monophenylether-Formaldehyde Polymer Microspheres via Dispersion Polymerization

Ethylene glycol monophenylether(EGP)-formaldehyde(EGP-FA) polymer microspheres was prepared from ethylene glycol monophenylether and formaldehyde via dispersion polymerization,with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) as stabilizer and concentrated H2SO4as catalyst.The effects of PVA dosage,the ratio of formaldehyde to EGP,temperature,concentrated H2SO4dosage and stirring rate on the particle size,size distribution and yield of EGP-FA polymer microspheres were investigated.Under the optimum conditions:n(formaldehyde)∶n(EGP) of 2.00,4.5%(w)PVA(based on the mass of EGP and formaldehyde),14.10%(w)H2SO4(based on the mass of EGP and formaldehyde),70 ℃ and 700 r/min stirring rate,the particle size,size distribution and yield of EGP-FA polymer microspheres were 384.16 μm,1.216 and 45.8%,respectively.
