In the fission fragment radiolysis of gaseous ethylene, G(n-butane) was 8.1 at an ethylene pressure of 2 atm, and decreased with the ethylene pressure. The high G(n-butane) value and its pressure dependence are discussed in connection with the structure of fission fragment tracks in ethylene. It is concluded that ethyl radicals are formed in excess as precursors of n-butane by neutralization of ions in the tracks, and that n-butane is formed not inside but outside of the tracks homogeneously.
