Study on safety of transsphenoidal microsurgery for lesions in sellar region

Objective To further improve the safety of surgery for lesions in sellar region.Methods Clinical data of 196 patients undergoing transsphenoidal microsurgery for lesions in sellar region and the related literatures were reviewed to evaluate safety and management.Results A total of 168 cases were totally removed,26 cases were sub-totally removed,and 2 cases could not be removed.After operation hemorrhagic complication occurred in 3 cases,permanent diabetes insipidus in 2 cases,cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea in 21 cases,meningitis in 8 cases,and visual disorder aggravation in 5 cases.The mortality of this group was 2.55%(5 cases).Conclusion Accurate preoperative diagnosis,careful analysis of clinical data,application of neuronavigation and microsurgical skills and the treatment of complications can greatly improve the safety of surgery for lesions in sellar region.
