OP19.05: Is middle cerebral artery Doppler useful in the prenatal prediction of homozygous α⁰-thalassaemia?

Results: Both groups were similar in gestational age (31.0 ± 5.9 for the control group Vs 31.1 ± 5.12 for women with pregestational diabetes). Both, VI and VFI were significantly lower in the pregestational diabetes group (2.24 ± 1.44 and 0.85 ± 0.64 for control group Vs 1.51 ± 0.75 and 0.55 ± 0.32) for pregestational diabetes group respectively (p = 0.02 and p = 0.04). FI did not differ significantly between the two studied groups. Conclusions: Fetuses of pregestational diabetic pregnancies showed lower values of some of the 3-D angio Doppler indexes. This finding could suggest a deficient fetal vascularitation and/or cerebral angiogenesis. Further studies are needed to evaluate the relationships between these indexes and both the grade of metabolic diabetic control and perinatal outcome.
