Endoscopic sphincterotomy: Analysis of 155 cases

Endoscopic sphincterotomy is a valid method particularly in the treatment of stones in the common bile duct in patients at high operative risk. Our experience in the treatment of 155 such patients is described. The low mortality (0.7 per cent) and the good long-term results (97 per cent) obtained confirm the effectiveness of this method as compared with surgical treatment under similar conditions.
