Infrared diffuse reflectance study of alkali promoted iron/alumina and cobalt/alumina Fischer-Tropsch catalysts prepared by decomposition of carbonyls

Diffuse reflectance infrared (IR) spectroscopy was used for the study of alkali-promoted iron/alumina and cobalt/alumina Fischer-Tropsch catalysts prepared from carbonyls. High-quality spectra of carbon monoxide molecules adsorbed on these catalysts were obtained. They show that the addition of alkaline promotors results in the stabilization of iron and cobalt on the surface of γ-alumina in the metal state and the modification of electronic properties of oxidized forms.
