collaboratively": a critical reflection of a Work Based Learning placement

This paper is a reflection of a staff and student collaboration. Three students collaborated with a member of staff within Sport Studies as part of their work based learning project, a level two module within the Sport Studies degree. The students were involved in a research project exploring females' experiences of the martial arts as well as working as teaching assistants and planning collaborating to deliver a seminar to level 1 students on the Sociology of Sport module. This reflection explores the benefits to staff and students of the creation of small research projects, the reflection in particular draws out a number of key issues such as; the shifting nature of the relationship between staff and students, the enhancement of student research skills and the benefit of such a placement to students future study and career aspirations. We conclude by suggesting that such collaboration has benefits to students and staff and should be considered more widely by staff and students.
