•A decentralized approach for multi-view multi-person tracking in VSNs.•Likelihood functions are compressed to reduce communication in the network.•Comparison on well-known wavelet transforms to choose an appropriate domain.•Qualitatively and quantitatively, our framework outperforms the centralized approach.
