摘要
We study the charge structure on the rapidity axis for particles produced by 200-GeV/c ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ interactions, with the charge-zone technique. We observe a constant density of zones around zero rapidity in the center-of-mass frame, perhaps indicating the saturation of short-range forces responsible for the formation of zones. Several characteristics such as the multiplicity and interparticle rapidity distances of central zones show similarities with those of end zones when there are no leading particles. Comparison of central zones with Monte Carlo simulated data, randomizing the charge distributions, supports the presence of local compensation of charge. Zone characteristics from our experiment agree well with those from the 400-GeV/c $\mathrm{pp}$ experiment.
