Secret Code The sequence of human chromosome 18, which has the lowest gene density of any human chromosome, is now complete. Surprisingly, the proportion of non-protein-coding regions evolutionarily conserved among mammals is close to the genome-wide average. This suggests that there is more to non-coding sequences than meets the eye, and that they are well worth holding on to.
