To control syphilis amongprostitutes and seasonal farmworkers inFresnoCounty, California, we developed aprogram ofselective masstreatment ofpros- titutes. FromAugust 1976toJuly1977, 512womenentered theprogram. Overall, 4.6percentofwomentreated prophy- lactically forsyphilis wereactually infected. Compared to cases intheprevious year, infectious syphilis casesamong prostitutes andseasonal farmworkers decreased 51.3per centand26.8percent, respectively. (AmJPublic Health 69:1181-1182, 1979.)
