Implementation Strategies For Application Level Acknowledgment And Retransmission Mechanisms

In this paper we study the impact on performance of various implementation strategies for application level acknowledgment and retransmission mechanisms. The context for this research is FOBS: (Fast Object-Based data transfer System), a high performance data transfer system for computational grids. FOBS is an application level system that uses UDP for fast transfer rates and TCP for system control. Since FOBS is UDP-based, it much implement its own reliability mechanism whose implementation and performance is the focus of this paper.
