A Study of La(Mn1−xNix)O3 and Its Bonding with Cubic ZrO2

A series of solid solutions of the La(Mn(1-x)Ni(x))3 system is prepared and investigated by X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, electrical resistivity, and thermal expansion coefficient measurement. Finding shows that a complete range of solid solution exists with face centered cubic structure. The electrical resistivities of La(Mn(1-x)Ni(x))O3 are quite low in the order of 10(-2) OMEGA-cm at 1173 K. The thermal expansion coefficient has a minimum at a composition around x = 0.4 and had the same value as that of 10 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 at a composition of x = 0.2. The bonding of La(Mn(1-x)Ni(x))O3 (x = 0.2) with cubic ZrO2 is achieved at 1573 K under a pressure of 2 MPa for 127.8 ks. The high resolution TEM image reveals that both phases are bonded directly without any cracks or third phases at the interface.
