The Clinical Value of Procalitonin Detection in the Febrile Patients with Malignant Hemotologic Disease

Objective To explore the value of procalcitonin in the febrile patients with malignant hemotologic disease.Methods All adult patients who were admitted into blood medical ward of general hospital in Ningxia medical university between January 1st,2010 and July 30th,2011.According to etiology,radiographic,symptom and signs,all patients were divided into the infection group and the fever group.The difference of procalcitonin's level between the infection and the fever group was analyzed.Results In the infected patients with malignant hemotologic disease,procalcitonin levels had the statistically significant difference between the infection and those with fever of unknown origin(Hc = 6.740,P = 0.009).Procalcitonin levels had no statistically significanct changes with the degree of fever(χ2 = 0.884,P = 0.665).In the infection group,there wasn 't significant difference in procalcitonin level among different gender,aged groups or different groups divided by the leukocyte count.Conclusion In these patients with malignant hemotologic disease,procalcitonin was useful for diagnosing infection.The procalcitonin's level were independent of the gender,age,the degree of fever,grade of neutrophic cell count.
