Recording compound action potentials from the optic nerve in man and monkeys

Compound action potentials were recorded from the optic nerve in patients undergoing neurosurgical operations and in rhesus monkeys. The stimuli were short light flashes delivered by light-emitting diodes that were bonded to plastic contact lenses positioned on one or both eyes, and potentials were recorded simultaneously from electrodes placed on the scalp.
