摘要

Introduction: A predilection exists for males to develop abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). The reasons for this gender predisposition are not known. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) has been implicated in both human AAAs and experimental models of rodent AAAs. This study tested the hypothesis that male and female gender differences exist in aortic smooth muscle cell MMP-9 production.
