A glucagon effect on rabbit reticulocyte cell-free protein synthesis

Commercially prepared glucagon added in μmolar quantities to reticulocyte lysates caused a concentration-dependent depression in the cell-free translation of globin mRNA. Nuclease activity and non-specific protein effects are ruled out as explanations of the glucagon influence.
