Promising Electrolyte For Sofc: Zirconia Codoped With Sc3+ And Bi3+

Sc-stabilized zirconia doped with 2 mol% Bi2O3 (Bi-8ScSZ) was synthesized by Pechini method, and sintered at 1050 similar to 1500 degrees C. The phases and electrical conductivity were investigated using XRD, visible Raman spectroscopy, and AC impedance spectroscopy. The addition of Bi2O3 partly suppressed the phase transitions (t'-> t) in cooling process from elevated sintering temperatures, and improved the densities of the samples as a sintering aid. When the sintering temperature was 1400 degrees C, the Bi-8ScSZ exhibited a high total electrical conductivity (about 10(-2) S/cm, at 500 degrees C), which may be due to the elimination of m-phase and the suppression of the decomposition of a meta-stable phase t'
