Reduced radius for U-turns, improved manouvrability in narrow spaces and easier parking, are some of the advantages introduced by rear-axle steering systems. Furthermore, these systems provide a better behaviour of vehicle at high speeds: increased velocity in curves and reduction of overturning are some of this advantages. Although most of these systems are hydraulically actuated and electronically controlled, fully mechanical alternatives can be convenient for special purpose vehicles, which may demand more robustness. This article shows a new design of a fully mechanical rear-axle steering system, whose main characteristics are simplicity, robustness and adaptability to particular vehicle requirements.
