Response to Letter by Matsushita and Okazaki

TO THE EDITOR: We appreciate the recent correspondence from Matsushita and Okazaki regarding our article on Klebsiella liver abscess (KLA) (1). They stress the importance of evaluating patients with KLA for occult gastrointestinal malignancy by citing their case report of a patient with KLA and subsequent dissemination of the infection to the eye, brain, and lung; the patient was found to have a sigmoid carcinoma several months after the initial evaluation and treatment when she complained of profuse watery diarrhea (2).
