A Semantic Google Maps Based Emergency Management Graphical User Interface

Public organisations access spatially related information for management as well as for communication purposes. We outline a graphical user interface for a Semantic GIS where several data sources and services are made available through Semantic Web Services. This practical example aims to provide a goal oriented tool for emergency planners and decision makers of public organizations. It uses Google Maps API, Firefox's implementation of Javascript with E4X, as well as AJAX techniques to access the services. It allows to access emergency relevant resources as described in an ontology and to communicate with helpers through Instant Messaging.
