The use of the sol-gel technique to prepare TiO2-Al2O3 binary system over a wide range of Ti-Al ratios

Series of TiO2-Al2O3 mixed oxides with different TiO2 contents (2.5-97 mol %) was prepared by the sol-gel method and studied by XRD, XPS, and N-2 physisorption. At low Ti contents, Ti ions tend to incorporate into the Al2O3 lattice thus increasing the specific surface area. With an increase in the Ti content (50 mol %), the TiO2 Crystalline phase starts to form. Al2O3 segregates at the surface of TiO2 clusters, thereby preventing their agglomeration.
