Decursin inhibited proliferation and angiogenesis of endothelial cells to suppress diabetic retinopathy via VEGFR2

•Decursin inhibited angiogenic and proliferative in HUVEC and HRMVEC in high glucose.•Decursin reduced VEGFR-2 expression in HUVEC and HRMVEC in excess glucose.•Decursin reduced VEGFR-2 expression in retina of streptozotocin induced diabetic rat.•The decursin may be a safe intervention in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
