Model for product data exchange based on ontology

Applications of STandard for the Exchange of Product data model (STEP) in data integration domain was analyzed. Shortcomings of traditional data exchange were pointed out. Product data representation and exchange based on ontology was discussed. The Ontology Web Language (OWL) architecture was re-organized from the ontology modeling perspective, and mapping rules from EXPRESS to OWL were provided. A novel model for product data exchange based on ontology was proposed. An example of product data exchange in the design of a missile guidance system was presented. Data exchange results based on the proposed model was validated with the Protégé tool.
