摘要
Optical Networking with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) has the potential to satisfy the future needs of both military and commercial communication systems due to the corresponding high bandwidth provision, low electromagnetic interference, and light weight. However, fiber optic components are susceptible to faults, particularly in hazardous working conditions. Therefore, there is a need to design architectures that are able to offer fault tolerance. In a previous work [1], we proposed a torus-based fault tolerant architecture, an optimal 4-way routing algorithm and a wavelength allocation and reuse scheme using dedicated lightpaths. Here, we remove the dedicated lightpath requirement and examine wavelength-efficient fault tolerance when spare lightpaths are shared.
