Negative refraction in arrays of identical dielectric resonators

The opportunity to engineer negative refraction in arrays of identical dielectric resonators (DRs) has been demonstrated. Coupling between DRs and periodicity of arrays are considered as the reasons that cause unexpected for homogenized metamaterials negativity of the refractive indices of the structures. Full-wave simulations by using the CST Microwave Studio have been employed for obtaining the scattering parameter spectra, which were further used for retrieving array refractive indices. Manipulating coupling and dispersion effects has been provided by changing the lattice parameters of the arrays. Negative refraction has been verified in numerical experiments with prism-shaped array samples.
