•PARP-inhibitors protect against the development of hypertensive vascular remodeling.•PARP-1 inhibitors do not have blood pressure lowering effect.•The protective mechanism involves the inhibition of MAPKs via modulation of MKP-1.•The cytoprotective PI3K/Akt-1 signaling was activated.•Activation of the transcription factor NF-κB was also moderated by PARP inhibition.
