Safety assessment of the fermented Phylloporia ribis (Lonicera japonica Thunb.) mycelia by oral acute toxicity study in mice and 90-day feeding study in rats

•Fermented P. ribis mycelia (FPM) have been approved by NHFPC for use as a new food material.•We evaluated acute and subchronic toxicity in experimental animal of FPM.•Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD) of FPM for male and female mice was over 10g/kg bw.•No Observed Adverse-Effect Level (NOAEL) of the test material was greater than 8.7g/kg bw/day in both sexes of rats.
