The PLUNGE randomized controlled trial: evaluation of a games-based physical activity professional learning program in primary school physical education.

•We examine the use of a game centered curriculum by generalist primary teachers.•Games based curriculum with a focus on physical skills, game skills and active play was developed.•Generalist primary teachers were mentored in the delivery of the developed curriculum.•Teachers were able to deliver games based lessons successfully after undertaking mentoring.•Students improved object control and physical activity levels in classes.
