What's in Your Satchel? Things Best Not Forgotten: Reflections on a Year in Peru.

It has taken months for me to process the year I spent living and working in two rural towns in the Andes Mountains outside of Cuzco, Peru. Some of my time was spent in Maras, a town of about 2000 people, where I worked at a Centro de Salud, the most basic of sites in Peru's national health care system. The bulk of my time, however, was spent in Kacllaraccay (in case you were thinking of trying, you can't find it on Google Maps), a town of 300 farmers, where I worked for the Crescendos Alliance as the first on-site director of a brand new clinic (1).
