•Wide EPR absorption spectra are acquired using rapid scan technology.•Many extensively overlapped direct-detected triangular field scans are combined.•Lineshapes are in excellent agreement with CW spectra for sweep widths of 150–6200G.•Signal-to-noise advantages relative to CW are similar to rapid scan.
