Exciton states and interband absorption of cylindrical quantum dot with Morse confining potential

•Cylindrical quantum dot with Morse potential is studied.•For strong and weak size quantization regimes analytic expressions for the particle energy spectrum are obtained.•Dependance of absorption coefficient on sizes of quantum dot is obtained.•The selection rules corresponding to different transitions between quantum levels are found.
