Growth responses of narrow or broad site adapted tree species to a range of resource availability treatments after a full harvest rotation

•Above and belowground growth and productivity of five tree genotypes were evaluated.•Loblolly pine was more productive than four hardwood tree genotypes.•All genotypes responded positively to fertilization but not always to irrigation.•Belowground biomass allocation decreased with resource availability in sweetgum and pine.
