Riparian buffer strips: Their role in the conservation of insect pollinators in intensive grassland systems

•This research evaluates riparian buffer strips as a resource for insect pollinators•Riparian margins (i.e. fenced and unfenced) supported more insect pollinators than grassland fields•Insect pollinators were more abundant in wide buffer strips than in narrow buffer strips•Impacts of riparian management could not solely be explained by differences in flower abundance•Management to promote flowering plants may enhance the biodiversity value of buffer strips
