Bistability, self-oscillations, and logical operations based on optoelectronic elements with nematic liquid crystals

This paper discusses the possibility of using liquid-crystal elements based on the controllable birefringence effect in the positive-feedback regime as multifunctional optoelectronic devices of optical information-processing systems. A number of logical operations have been implemented, as well as the optical-bistability and differential-amplification regimes. (C) 1998 The Optical Society of America.
