Secondary metabolites isolated from various strains of myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum (photo in the background, taken by K. Gerth) often possess interesting biological activities. Eliamid (yellow) was found to inhibit the reduction of ubiquinone through complex I (the red and blue curves) at nanomolar concentrations.
