iROCS: Integrated accident management framework for coping with beyond-design-basis external events

•An integrated mitigating strategy to cope with extreme external events, iROCS, is proposed.•The strategy aims to preserve the integrity of the reactor vessel as well as core cooling.•A case study for an extreme damage state is performed to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of candidate mitigation strategies under an extreme event.
