Study of the performance of a membrane-based vacuum drying process

•The efficiency of a VMDr was studied by varying different parameters.•A homogeneous feed was obtained by both mixing and air bubbling.•High amounts of feed were successfully dehydrated (high productivity).•Clean water at the permeate side together with a 100% solid recovery were achieved.•A final dry residue of 98±0.5wt% was reached.
