Calculation of desorption times using local or nonlocal surface potentials

The desorption times of a gas desorbing from the surface of a solid in localized physi-sorption are calculated in a quantum statistical theory based on either a local surface potential or its nonlocal approximation. A detailed comparison of the two approaches shows reasonable agreement.
