Mental imagery scanning in autism spectrum disorder

•Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are reported to use inflexible navigational strategies.•However ASD individuals can generate and scan their mental image of a previously viewed topographical map.•ASD participants are just as susceptible to top-down navigational information.•They rely more on verbal strategies to scan their mental images.
