Iatrogenic Metastasis Associated with Implanted Venous Access Port-A Case Report

Cancer patients are always concerned about metastases associated with the diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Though uncommon, iatrogenic metastasis is nevertheless not as rare as once thought and merits close attention. We herein report a 47-year-old man with small-cell lung cancer who developed a metastasis at the injection site of a totally implanted venous access port 7 months after its establishment. On searching the Medline database, no similar cases were found. We also highlighted the importance of early detection as aggressive surgical intervention or radiotherapy may offer a satisfactory long-term outcome in isolated iatrogenic seeding metastasis.
