Collaborating to Eliminate Fraudulent Nursing Education Programs

In September 2007, the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) began receiving calls from constituents asking if certain nursing education programs were BON approved. By December 2007, the BON staff identified five fraudulent nursing education programs. In May 2012, a permanent injunction was issued against the last of the five programs. This article describes the process and outcomes regarding fraudulent nursing education programs in Texas from 2007 to 2012, while emphasizing the importance of collaboration among state agencies.
