Relationship between tectonic structures and hydrogeochemical compartmentalization in aquifers: Example of the “Jeffara de Medenine” system, south–east Tunisia

•The lateral extent of aquifers is controlled by NW-SE and NE-SW normal faults.•The hydrochemical facies clustering showed coherence with reservoirs compartments.•The hydrogeochemical maps showed trends reflecting the structural configuration.•The cross-correlation evinced the processes leading to the hydrofacies distribution.•The methodology revealed the tectonic structures role on aquifers functioning.
